Could you provide us with a bit more information? (Eg. The Practice problems and their confusing answers) Unfortunately, no. The class is web-based and the practice quizzes are also web-based. There's no way to get the same practice quiz twice. However, a good example might be: (25 - 27.34)squared/27.34 Those were the types of numbers being dealt with.

So, I was helping my sister with her statistics homework tonight (she kept getting results that were of at the second and third decimal places). And I'm trying to figure out if there's a bug in the practice quizzes her prof set up, or if there's a math thing that I'm just missing completely. The formula is: x(squared) = (observed value - expected value)squared / expected value. Given that the (observed - expected) is squared, it should never matter which value is subtracted from which value. Let me rephrase that. Because it's squared, (observed - expected) is the same as (expected - observed), correct? Some of the practice quizzes had answers that were off by a couple decimals. When we switched around the observed and expected, we got answers that exactly matched the answer key. Yet, on other practice quizzes, the answer was correct when we stuck with (observed - expected)squared. I know that the subtraction would be different if we were dealing with negative numbers, so it is important to note that we were dealing only with positive numbers (e.g. (153 - 177.124), not (153 - (-177.124)).
I think I've just looked at it too long, and I'm in "the forest for the trees" mode. So, feel free to poke fun as you're setting me straight.

So, I've just got to ask what you guys think about the new nominee for SCOTUS. I've got various question for you guys, answer all of them or none of them or whichever ones interest you. Here they are, in no particular order.
1. Do you think this is cronyism? 2. Do you think she is a religious zealot? 3. Do you think she is underqualified? 3a. If so, why?

Does this mean that you're finally gonna change all the new "I'm a mod now and everybody must be informed of it" stuff?
Drop it, V.
Revka! How you been?
You know what cat? I really do mean this with all due respect, but I've been a respected and respectful member here (and on HN) for far to long to keep being publicly rebuked by you. I asked you on a previous occasion to do things like this via a PM. You don't particularly like me. I get that. Just do me a favour and keep it private. Just as I would expect a boss to not reprimand me in front of co-workers, I expect you (as a mod) to not reprimand me in front of other members.

No hardass would give up the "resident hardass" title so easily.
You're no hardass!
Nope. I'm a washed up has-been.
Does this mean that you're finally gonna change all the new "I'm a mod now and everybody must be informed of it" stuff?

Why do you bitches always get personal....ha. F'ing geeks think they know everything. Why, that's exactly the kind of response I would expect from a good Christian such as yourself. You know, because Christians are never judgmental or anything.

He's a cripple...makes good use of his mind. But he's not God....even Hawkins makes mistakes with bad theories. What does the fact that "he's a cripple" have to do with anything? Unfortuately the rule of thumb in the scientific community is that a theory stands unless it can be disproven. Actually before it becomes a theory it goes through (as someone already pointed out) rigorous testing. Until then it's a hypothesis. Try reading up on the scientific method sometime. It's kinda like religion in that it constantly changes. This one is my favourite. You couldn't be more wrong on this. Is science constantly changing to compensate for the facts? Yes! But that is the whole point of science. Religion on the other hand never changes! Religious belief systems are based on the bible, and I don't think you'll ever see someone rewriting that, despite the fact that new evidence may come to light. That is the scientific process, however just because a theory makes print...doesn't mean shit. That needs to be made clear!!!! Once done, hopefully all the stupid school system stuff will go away. Holy crap, I just had an epiphany! History class should be abolished. Just because it's in a history book doesn't mean it actually happened. I challenge you to travel back in time and prove to me that what's in a history book is true. The same goes for all science classes and math classes too. Hell, based on this reasoning, school (in its entirety) should be done away with!!! I'm not sure what happens in a black hole. Maybe a singularity, maybe a ring of spinning matter, maybe something else. An awful lot of maybe's in science, so why do they try to push their beliefs on me!!!!! Worse than the damn Jehovah's Witnesses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Science isn't pushing its beliefs on you! Science doesn't show up at your door and try to convert you. That activity is solely reserved for religious zealots. Gotta go to the bar. Time for me to get drunk. If there's any justice, you'll drink yourself into a coma from which you'll never awaken and bother us with drivel again.[/b]

Let's see...new title, new picture in the sig, new quote in the sig, new big bad attitude...methinks Dark Shade needs to get over himself.
I thought change was in order. I've been quiet around here lately, so in a comeback fashion, I changed it up a lil'. Nothing wrong with that, I hope.
Eh, whatever. It's not as though I actually give a shit, one way or the other, about what you do.

Better watch it, newbie. Dark Shade is the resident hardass moderator, and he now has his eye on you.
Thought I'd give him a chance to change his ways. And yes, I am a hardass!

Hi! We love that you felt compelled to join the forum and make a post. However, tradition has it that you should create a newbie thread wherein you'll post some inane crap about who you are and what you do etc. We'll pretend we care and welcome you to the fold and then, and ONLY then, will your posts be recognized outside the newbie forum with something other than scorn.
Capisce?
geez.....ur alot of a fuckin smartazz aint ya?...someone new joins the forums and tellz us a good thing datz goin and wuld like us to kno and wat doez he/she get?.....a fart in da face by a fuckin jackazz such as urself!

Well, now that I've read all of your drivel, let me be the first to say...buh-bye. It's been nice knowing you, and we sure will miss you around here. Oh yeah, one last thing. Only morons and/or 12 year olds type like you. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Quit ditching fucking English class! God damn kids! GET OFF MY LAWN! As a general question to whatever legal experts are on hand: is it too late for this asshat to be aborted? Edit: By the way, when you start to wonder why you got banned, it's because you insulted one of the funniest people around here. Oh, and he happens to be one of the charter members of this board. Thanks for playing though. Edit to the Edit: Make that two charter members that you've insulted in the span of less than four minutes. This comment is in reference to your post in the newb forum.

take 3 frequency generators, or spectrum annalizers, and resonate 3 seperate frequencies (7.5 khz, 5 mhz, 14 mhz) while harmonizing 4.55 khz on a radio frequency generator. as a neat touch have a vandergraff generator running 2 million volts and a tesla coil with 1 million volts nearby. These frequencies are as close as I'm allowed to give you, but their so close you could probably produce the effect within about half an hour of playing around with the dials. The effect has been recorded on many taped experiments to levitate objects, rip appart all different types metals, bounce a 75 pound cannon ball, transmutate metals into unknown elements, and he even made a broom fly, accidentally levitated one of his assistants with out harming him, phased an entire building next door to his lab out of existence, like the philedelphia experiment. The effect is by no means fully understood, but the manipulation of fundamental frequencies delvs into quantum mechanics, and has an effect over all life here, and all machines. He has a neat way to open portals too, he recreated the ark of the covenent going by biblical and egyptian plans. Timberwolf no I dont need a tinfoil hat, and helecopters would know better than to follow me, I do have a mazer, a gazer, and a bazer, look those up smart ass. Step off.
Uh...I think I missed something...please to be telling me what I missed.

BizB...that keyboard you posted is pure amazing-ly uber (is that even a adj.?) my life has changed for the better because of it. You probably know this, but uber=german for super. As in Ubermensch, a term used by Neitzche meaning the superhuman, a human that is the soverign of man..exists outside of the community of man due to his exellence. Something like that.
I want that keyboad so bad, it hurts. It's beautiful. Weighted keys!?! this can't be happening. If I got that keyboard I would play Counter-Strike again, even though I swore against it.
Actually, uber doesn't translate as super. Ubermensch doesn't mean superman, it means overman. There's a difference. Please be aware of it before you decide to school all of us dummies. Here's a link if you want to know more about the concept of the overman. http://www.stanford.edu/~pj97/Nietzsche.htm

Wait, let me understand this. This asshole, comes in here and breaks the "we're not a tech support forum" rule, and slings stupid around while doing it. A longtime regular calls him on it, he insults the hell out of longtime regular, and you're yelling at me? What am I missing here?
