Political Opinions / *Not* an abortion thread
« on: June 02, 2009, 08:56:40 AM »
I heard this on the radio this morning from a pro-life (or anti-choice, as they like to say) advocate speaking on the shooting of Dr. George Tiller.  I paraphrase: "If the Christian religion is true, then abortion is murder".  Can someone fill me in on the "logic" behind that statement?  From a purely scholarly perspective, I don't think the Bible has anything to say on the matter as it is a fairly new invention.  Please try to stay on topic for at least the first five posts  :slap

I'm going to go out of a limb and say a computer had something to do with the creation of this animal.

Careful!  12 will brook no naysaying of the authenticity of his posts!  Then again, you have boobies (presumably).

Some goofy canuck who constantly uses the military exclamation "hoo-rah" in entirely inappropriate contexts.

Isn't that called "Brave New World", and it was written by Aldous Huxley about 80 years ago?
Or maybe you knew that and were trying to exhibit the tarditude of today's youth, and I ruined it for you.  My bad.

For your rich vs poor scenario, it's a lot cheaper for the rich to just harvest organs from the poor, so that's the way I'd go with that.

For the women vs men scenario, it wouldn't take many generations for there to be no more males if the female-dominated society decides they're really not needed or wanted.  You need to include a reason for them to not just abort male fetuses.  Maybe they keep males for labor, maybe for pleasure, but for something.

How about something in the vein of Heinlein's 'If This Goes On' about a future world where ultra-religious zealots have taken over the government and the cruelties they inflict in the name of God?

"the distance around which is 640 rods?" included on the 'applicable today' list?  Gimme a break.
I can get with keeping some of the math, but almost all the rest is stuff you should be taught how to find and not waste time and effort memorizing.

Now this part I really don't get. If you wanted to disqualify my post, you could've come up with something better than a page that says "it doesn't know". This is the best you could do?
They give three reasons why they suspect it's a hoax; then point out that there's "no reason to believe it isn't what it says it is". LMAO. That's some conspiracy there. Let's see...

You are missing the point as usual.  I am not saying it's a hoax, an urban myth, or anything else.  I'm saying this has been going around for years and it reeks of urban legend, whether it is real or not.  And as usual, you go posting it as gospel when even a cursory search would have called it into question, if not debunked it outright.

Quote
Going past all that; please clue me in on why the hell someone would try to create a hoax about an 8th grade test in Kansas? The idea occurred to you; you looked up/found this on a truth or fiction site; which is why I ask you.
Because people have agendas.  Some people like to tell themselves that everything in the past was better, and that we should go back to doing things they way they did then.  You can conclude for yourself the extent of societal change that would entail, and who it would be good and bad for.

I'd say about 90% is useless information today, and even if it's not, it's a lot more important to know how to find the information than to have it memorized.  Not to say that kids today aren't tards, just that it has no relation to this list.

And let us not forget the usual reply to 12's posts... http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/a/1895exam.htm

Good movie.
My only problem was that they could beam a guy onto a ship traveling at warp speeds, but for the rest of the movie they have trouble locking the transporter on people who are basically moving around too much.

At the risk of feeding you, I would like to just state that who cares what the speed of light is?  It's irrelevant data as it relates to answering your query.

What about "redskin"?  That always seemed like it would be offensive to me if I had been an indigenous person and/or had feelings.

Apu: Today, I am no longer an Indian living in America. I am an Indian-American.
Lisa: You know, in a way, all Americans are immigrants. Except, of course Native Americans.
Homer: Yeah, Native Americans like us.
Lisa: No, I mean American Indians.
Apu: Like me.

Thanks, all. Except for that last guy who clearly has deep-seated psychological issues.

I thought I would either put together a highly skilled and loyal personal guard, or else a band of roving pickpockets.  The Von Trapp Family Singers would be a distant third option.

It is a grocery store... so as long as you stack the eggs and bread on top you'll be fine.
I can say this because I have worked at grocery stores before.  Also, take advantage of it while you can, because no future workplace will ever have a ratio like the grocery store does.
