Hi ho0ber .  You haven't been forgotten.  Missed perhaps, but not forgotten.

Thanks :)  I've been missing you folks too. Now that I have a 9-5er, maybe I'll be able to waste some more time here.

This might be of some use in your efforts. Hope that helps!

I find it amazing that there is a website entirely devoted to the mental health of the internet. :-D  In all seriousness, I hope a distressed web designer never goes there, as I'm sure the design would push them over the edge.

I have a tough time with lyrics which is why I'm still creating entirely instrumental music. I've actually picked back up this year and have really gotten back into it. I don't know if many of you remember it, but like back in 2001 I posted my music on our FTP, and a couple of the tracks ended up in the featured music section. I've now set up a website for my music, as I'm actively making more: http://www.sdc-music.com/ (zomg SPAM!!11one1).

Right now it is set up on a system where if people make a donation they get a VIP account and can download all of my music for free, but I'll gladly set up an account for any of you here (at least the old-farts who actually remember me  ).

Also, if you landlord is that big of a sleeze ball he/she is probably not going to give you your security deposit back, so I'd trash the plac (or light it on fire) before you go.

Don't light a fire. The bastard will collect millions for the Ferrari he keeps in his closet and the fine artwork he'll pretend to have, and not to mention a huge amount of money for all of the "improvements" he has just done to the place. I don't know what it is, but this whole place just sounds like insurance fraud waiting to happen.

I say just cherry bomb his toilet.

Thanks for the advice - pretty sure I had most of that sorted out. I messed with it some more though, and I think I'm in good shape.

I think now it would require some exploit that has yet to be discovered. Brute forcing it is pretty much out of the question.

Anarchy / Google chat
« on: February 19, 2006, 08:00:12 AM »
It is great for me because I have a group of contacts on gmail I've been working on some projects with.  Its been great to just hop in there to check my mail and see that one of them is online and get in touch. Considering that these are people who I only know via gmail, CVS, and an IRC chat about monthly, it is great to be able to chat real time with a couple of them.

Its pretty slick too - it seems to happily run on even my olllllld machines. I'm still waiting for someone to make like a good command line client though. I know it sounds crazy, but I spend so much of my time sshing all over to work on this or that, that I've just sort of stopped using X most of the time.

So I know it's taboo to ask for this sort of support:

HI CAN U PLZ HLP ME HAX MY GFS HTOMAIL?!!! KTHXBYE!!1

However, I have a computer security class assignment that some of you folks might be able to help with.

So here is what's up:

Teams of two in the class each have control of a box on a little private network. We each picked different distributions of linux to install on them, and got ourselves some little servers up and running. The professor's machine is the sample user's machine, from which he attempts to use the services we provide from our servers. Every four or five days we have to offer another type of service (FTP, HTTP... etc) as he assigns, or sometimes we just have to make changes to those that we already offer.

Now, here is the challenge:

We've had a week of bloodshed free setup time before the chaos begins, but starting today we get to start trying to screw with the other group's boxen. The point is to secure our servers well, but to make sure we can still provide the services we're supposed to. We are supposed to be as evil as possible, but we get points off if another group knows what we did and who we are.

So my questions are the following:

I know some of you here are pretty solid linux users/admins. Do you know of any dirty little tricks or resources I should look into for the offensive side of this exercise? (My job is offense, but I'm of course helping secure our box too)

and

Any suggestions for how I should make sure my box is secure? I've been doing plenty of reading, but if you have any good resources, let me know. (We ended up getting Arch Linux for ours [no two groups could have the same]). Also, what do you suppose would be the best way to track what other people are doing to us (log file interpreters perhaps)?

PS: I know its been a while since I've been back here. Taking six courses a semester really kills the free time. I miss you guys!

Anarchy / DISGRACE 2!!! No German Missions in COD2
« on: November 01, 2005, 06:18:04 PM »
Hey, I think the game is really good - regardless of making Nazis look funky.  I mean, come on.  It isn't as if CoD 2 is the first to make Nazis look bad, I don't even need to list them here.

They were trying to make a fun game, not make a political statement.

In my eyes, a game like CoD 2 needs good guys and bad guys. It just so happens that they picked the side that committed mass genocide as the bad guys, and the major countries the game is marketed towards as the good guys.  I know that the Germans weren't stupid, and to be honest, the game shows better enemy AI than most I've played.

So frankly, I think you need to get your head out of your ass and realize that when it comes to treating the Axis side of WWII with respect, you're going to be out of luck.  I have no personal problems with Any of the countries that fought with the Axis, but had I been alive a little closer to WWII, I probably would be a bit more biased.

But are you trying to tell me that you think they should take away my awesome anti-Nazi games? What is next, the amazing Nazi movies?

I know it feels like people wont get over this whole Nazi thing, but you have to realize that most people today completely separate the thought of modern Germans and those who were forced to fight and kill obscene numbers of innocent people.

So okay... Stalin's reign was pretty awful too, I can't dispute that, but that is for a different game and a different story.

But to wrap up, I really think they have no German missions just to keep it a "good guys vs. bad guys" game, which regardless of being unfair, helps drive the story.

Also, if you want to play as Germans, play multiplayer! It is amazing!

Uruguay is in Africa. Its capital is Rostov on the Don. It is ruled by the clever and despotic Idi Amin. Its main industries are sugar cane and beheadings. It is north of Antartica and to the left of El Salvador.

See? I know my geography!

Now tell me where Suomiland and Helvetia are without Googling, and I'll give you a Lembas cookie.

::INCOHERENT EXCREMENT::

Those country names I mentioned are not in English. In English they would be Finland and Switzerland.

Lembas cookies are not for dogs. They are for Elves, and occasionally for Hobbits.

Hahaha, I love you ivan.

I am currently trying to figure out whether a couple of old Sun workstations are still in useable conditions. I love old computers.

I have a couple of those sitting in my room.  If you ever figure out how to have them default to the VGA card I have in them, let me know.

Even though you're gone, you've really got to get over your Oscar Wilde thing. Serious.

Everyone knows that reheated dead baby just isn't the same (unless it is in a dead baby casserole).

Excellent! My brother went to St Andrews for his undergrad (he is a classicist) and I went to his graduation this past spring.  One of my friends is also just starting his undergrad there.

Say hi to the blokes at the Whey Pat, and tell Malcolm from The Cellar that the guy who put the two dollar bill on his ceiling says hi.

If you happen to meet a foolish american named Ben Simonds, let him know that Sam from home says hello.

Man I miss that town.

Figured. Actualy, I was expecting more people to not know what the hell anime was.

Oh, ferchristsake, dude, my CAT knows what anime is!

Let me clue you in: most people over 40 in the US watched Speed Racer, Kimba the White Lion, Marine Boy, Astro Boy and Gigantor, just to name a few, in the Nineteen Sixties.

You probably think your generation invented sex, as well.

Actually, I love a whole bunch of Japanese cartoons. I just voted "no" because I think your poll sucks.

Even us thirty somethings remember those great cartoons.

And us twenty somethings remember references that great cartoons made to those great cartoons! (Family Guy ep 6)
