Main Page Stuff / Re: Common Misconceptions about College
« on: April 08, 2007, 10:49:40 PM »
You nailed it Chris.  When I went to university when I was 18 (it was in ancient times when Ontario High Schools went to grade 13) I made it to about 1/3 of my classes and struggled to finish.  I managed to make it thru by taking summer school courses at night while I worked during the day.

When I went back to do a post grad college certificate when I was in my early 30's it was a whole different story.  I missed one class because of an event at my daughter's school.  All my marks were A's except for on B+.

I know at 18 I was too immature to handle the responsibility of university ... to truly understand its value and make the right choices while I was there (my degree is in Economics for pitie's sake).  On the other hand, it does let you delay the responsibilities of life for a while and possibly get out from under parents' wings.  No clue what the right answer is but just know what I experienced.  When it comes time for my kids to go I'm going to want them to leave home ... to have a chance to be independent but I hope I'll have done my job well enough to help them be mature enough to handle it.

I added me  :-D.

All the anonymous entries were rather annoying but at least they didn't leave any flaming bags of poop with they dinged and donged.

Too true ... my best karate classes are when I imagine my ex-husband's face on the focus pad.  My punches and kicks are the most intense and well aimed when I pretend its him.

I live about 40 miles west of Toronto ... sort of around the bend in the lake just outside Hamilton.  Next time you're going to be in TO email me ... I used to work in the city and I pop in about once a month or so to go out.  Next time you're there you have got to go to Burrito Boyz ... best after-bar food EVAH!

I think I'm down to 10% (hence the black text).  But I did sign up for a course to get more geekified.

Hi Teknochic  :-D

True ...

An embarassing prank to leave lasting emotional scars would likely have more long term damaging effects and even if he was found out he'd just be a jerk ... not arrested.

Yeah ... he was a good guy too

As for the one I was talking about here, he forgot to write down the things I didn't want.  Like stealing my money and spending it on crack and then going (back) to jail.

Wow,  you've made me feel so much better Detta ... I thought I was the only one that found such winners.  We'll have to compare notes one day ... granted I didn't have to worry about the jail thing ... just chronic unemployment, chronic depression, self medication, suicidal tendancies.  And I wondered why I felt relieved when we broke up ... lol.

Your advice seems spot on.  Keep telling them and some might eventually get it.

Evonus ... think that's the point ...

Breaking the links in a nascent pun thread is bad enough, but what makes this wurst is my head is now stuffed with references that will now be nothing more than undigestable biproducts of my well-seasoned brains. Way to hang me out to dry, folks.

Pfeh! What a bunch of balony.

WEINERS!

ivan ... your comments cut me cold.  To be accused of breaking the links ... well I think you're just being snouty.  My humor, I know, is pretty lame ... I've been accused more than once of being a ham.  But now I just feel like a big ol' turkey.  I feel so salty right now I'm going to go out for a smoke.  pb ... send him right to the grinder for me ... *sniff*

On a side note ... when I was 17 I worked at Denningers:  Makers of Fine Sausages (in the '90's they wimped out and changed it to "Foods of the World")

Vespertine ... fashionably late ... there's a fresh batch of cocktail weinies and piggies in a blanket warming up in the oven ... what're you drinking?

Keith Richards' daddy's a BOOGER!
"The strangest thing I've tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father" Richards was quoted as saying.

its freakin' priceless ... but after the initial shock, c'mon its Keith Richards ...

I did hear an interview with Tommy Lee once where he was talking about partying at some hotel with Ozzy Osborne and Ozzy pissed on the pool deck.  All these ants came (do ants do that with urine???) so Ozzy got down on his hands and knees and snorted up these ants that were crawling around in his urine.  Tommy and the rest of the band got pretty freaked out and packed Ozzy off to his room.  You'd think its gotta be pretty bad to freak Motley Crue out ... lol.

So which is stranger ... dead father's ashes or ants soaked in one's own urine???
