If only it were so simple :)

Thats my problem. My P.C's been weird from the beginning in regards to the processor - when booted up a error message pops up everytime saying that theres a problem and to fix it in the bios. When the bios is changed it crashes and forces me to reset the CMOS thus bringing back the problem. I was sure I'd ordered the AMD 2100+ - I'm looking for reciepts and stuff at the mo to confirm this - but whichever way I aproach it via autmatic detection the processor is stated as being a 1500+ - I have visited the AMD site and have downloaded programs from there but they still say that its a 1500+ . I've been informed that a way to sort all of this out is to flash the bios but I'm loathe to do it unless required and so I'm back to finding out exactly what processor I have...

Is there a simple way of telling the speed of a AMD processor manually - preferablly without removing the fan.

No luck with Kazaa  :?

Admittedly all new releases are cams and stuff but you can still download most popular films that have been release on DvD - such as Terminator 2, Blade 2, The Die hard series and many more. Just search around and you'll find loads (just treat the Kazaa search thingy like a search engine and you'll get the hang of getting what you want outta it).

Phoenix, By Direct Connect do you mean FTP or is there another way?

Yea just try and play them on all software you have - DivX should work fine with such files and I've also found that Winamp3 can play some of .avi files. Best idea - before undertaking such large downloads - is to try and send messages to the people your downloading from and ask them whether the file is o.k. Most people will reply and they'lll be pretty honest plus it saves you spending hours on a dud file.

you can also get some plug ins for Windows media - it called summat like a DivX condec I think (or so I've been told...) - which will allow you to play these files in it - All files I've donloaded (2 which both say they are for DiVX and are .avi files) play fine in Windows Media.

Religion is the root of most wars - be it Islam or any other. Most religions have dogy sections that have sprung up out of the original so it is unfair to state that one religion is worse than the other - The Christians for example were keen to go around chopping people to bits in olden times under their holy war the "Crusade".

Go to http://www.themexp.org
As well as instructions (http://www.themexp.org/howto.php), there is all the boot screens, login screens and wallpaper you could ever want.

Enjoy!

(There is a way to do this automatically but I'm not clear on the logistics)

I did check that button and left it. But when I returned to the P.C later it was disconnected and there were no sign of an attempt to reconnect. I'll try again when I get home and watch carfully at the point of disconnection to see what happends.

Thanks and any other ideas?

also, try going to tools-->internet options-->connections, i believe there is a 'connect automatically' feature somewhere

I couldn't find it when I had a look. All I could find was auto - deconnect and proxy connections. You couldn't eloborate a bit - A step by step guide would suit my level of techinical skills :)

Thanks

So you have a cable connection

Actually now that I think of it the ISP wouldn't have any problems with it as they couldn't tell that it was automatically connecting. Now all I need to do is find one  :(

(can you set something up in windows that does the same thing ?)

Do download speeds increase the faster your moden speed or is it entirly dependant on the computer your downloading from?

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Fixed
« on: October 07, 2002, 08:21:39 AM »
Ack. I finally fixed it. It was - I think - MSBB.exe. I have no idea where I got this from but after downloading AD-Aware, running it and deleting the 108 ad prgrams on the computer the problem left. I also tidied up the start menu which has speed up the intial boot up time.

Thanks for the help,

I'll defrag and then run a scanner - in that order?. The P.C's fairly clear of junk. Its got about 15 gigs of info on it but most of its software and games. I have avoided downloading any dodgy programs onto this machines so as to keep it clean and in working order. I guess I could look around - although I usually end up causing more problems  deleting things when tidying then if I just left it (My last 'tidy' I wiped half a dive off and winsok32.dll as well as a few others. This resulted in the gradual decay of the drive as bits got lost and broken and ended up in a complete re-install of the OS and full formatt of the drive   )

I have just started having problems with Internet Explorer. In the last few days it began becoming really slow to pop up after clicking on the IE icon on the desktop. It took about 30 secs to load. Now its not doing anything when clicks on. Once a window is open the net speed is standard - 56K - and if you click on a link which opens another window it comes up fine - the problem is with the intial loading of IE. Its got to such an extent that - whilst connected to the internet - I cannot open any window (My computer, my docs or anything). The mouse shows the loading time thing and then nothing. But once I've disconnected from the net all the things I clicked on suddenly appear. I have recently installed 2 updates from the "windows update" thing which were tiny files to fix small security holes. I have also tried uninstalling IE 6 and then re-installing it but this, if anything, made it worse.

I would really appriciate help on this as its a pretty major concern.

Thanks

Yea I play CS. I would be on it all the time but my lame connection is way too slow. Unless you have a cable modem don't even think about it - the lag is horrible and kinda ruins the game. My best P.C game has to be Total Anihilation. Its kinda old now but it still rocks and you can easily spend hours just battling with the computer. You can also play online and it has a great single player. Another suggestion would be to go to a site like this and check out reviews and new realease

Let us know what you decide to get :)

Actually, when you look at the big picture, a growing fetus is really a parasite. A parasite is another organism that lives on or in another organism and lives off of the energy of the other organism. A fetus does that. I guess you could look at it as being a parasite and wanting to kill it, but that's only "playing dumb" and hiding the real reasons.

Whats one more parasite added to our parasitical race...

Needs a bit of a tidy :)

Heres mine from a while back.

I then tidied it up a bit and it looked like this

I've since changed background and tried to organise stuff so it doesn't go missing. Mite post another pic when I can be bothered to capture the screen.
