Overclocking
« on: August 06, 2004, 03:32:48 PM »

I've overclocked my CPU.... I've overclocked my video card....  Is there anything else you can overclock?

I have a P4C800E-Deluxe ASUS motherboard, which has bios overclocking capabilites   , however the first time I did it.... I only overclocked by 20% which brought my 2.8GIG to a 3.2GIG.  I only played for like 5 min with my side cover of the tower off and restarted my computer, to re-set the CPU settings back to normal.  On re-start it said CPU failure and I could not get past that.   After letting the computer sit for an hour I powered on again, this time no warning and I was able to set it back to normal settings.    Apparently this is a known problem with this board but not much word from ASUS on how to fix it.  ANYONE here know of this :?:

And seconldly I use PowerStrip to overclock the video card, and have found that to make a LARGE difference in performance.  :D  It's a Radeon 9600 Pro, found it  to be much less effective on nvidea cards as the engines must be cranked from the factory  .

I hear overclocking your power supply to 220volts helps a lot.

*laughs*

You can OC your bus. But that usually leads to issues.

Personally, I'd rather spend the money on the faster hardware up front cause I usually don't have the money to replace stuff that blows up.

I didn't like myy watch performance so I overclocked it once. Then I was always on time, even early! But after a while, I started to be late all the time. And then early again. The cycle never ended. It was too much of a hassle so I just gave up on the overclocking bit. It's so 1990's anyway.
