Non File Trading P2P Software - Something Different
« on: September 04, 2006, 05:15:36 PM »

Hello.
I recently launched a version 1.0 software called Maazios.  It occurred to me that this forum site is a good place to introduce it and find very capable techies who will try it. (Please hear me out even though it may look like spam but it's not since I am introducing a very novel approach to doing typical internet website activity).

Maazios is a suite of consumer peer to peer (P2P) applications.  It is like an application "browser" combined with an application web server.  Besides free phone calls (Skype) and file trading, P2P can also be used for conducting auctions, running your own storefront, posting classified ads/yellow page ads, hosting simple message boards, and much more - for free. The internet = freedom and free stuff.  Maazios was designed for home users.  A good analogy of Maazios is Mosaic/Netscape browser integrated with the web server.  But the key problem I have seen many new users encounter is firewall server port allow and port forwarding setup on their cable/dsl router.  I figure many members here will know how to configure their firewall/router easily and so I believe you are the most capable of setting up Maazios correctly; in addition, I think you will like to try out new software that is in its own brand new category (Home server software?).  You can find more info at www.maazios.com or my blog http://maazios.blogspot.com .

The firewall/portforward setup is needed because Maazios does not use supernode concept (very unfair to supernode computer and from an engineer point of view - very inefficient to have a middleman when direct connection is possible).  I am still waiting for the first new user who sets up Maazios/firewall/portforward correctly so I can declare him/her to be the First Maazter of their Domain.  All existing new users (who did not set the firewall/portforward right) are currently stuck as "browser" (or Padawan in Star Wars analogy); they can see the test items set up on my 6 test machines (domain names - janedoe, prime, kwokgable, joejohnson, businessman, & stuffinmygarage) but I cannot connect to them directly (it kind of defeats the purpose of using Maazios).

Please add your concerns, questions, etc. to this thread. I will check on it at least once a day to post my response.  For those willing to take the plunge - please contact me by private message or info@maazios.com so we can walk through the install and configure together.

Below are links to some screenshots of Maazios.

The firewall/portforward setup correctly is needed - so that other Maazios users can see and do things to your "stuff" and vice versa.

Please don't be so quick to judge.  This is the Anarchy section and what Maazios does is quite chaotic - free auctions, storefront, classified ad, msg board, etc.

I really need techies to do a test drive.  The P2P category is kind of stuck with file trading and Maazios is evolving this to a whole different level.

There are also security concerns - opening a server port in the firewall and router and what can be done against denial of service/data flooding; difficult search problems, user feedback integrity, transaction completion and integrity.  Am I in the right place discussing tech issues and introducing new concepts/software?  If not, I guess I am in the wrong place.

Hello! That's my name!

Here's the deal: We don't exist to serve you. The purpose of this forum is not related to recruiting of testers. If you become a member of our community, and after we get to know you a bit, we would gladely assist one of our compadres. Unfortunately, I just don't appreciate your approach of barging in here and demanding for help. You can send me all the pms you want, beg for mercy, and plea for your life, it won't matter. In fact I don't even need to intervene. To prove it, I will allow your post to stay for now and I will watch silently as others reply to your little thread.

Alright, then just kill the thread.  I thought this would be a good place to talk about new concepts or such.  One day, you just might see where P2P is headed. :-)

You can hang around a bit, get to know the community if it's that important to you. We are all geeks; but "geek" != "tech". In other words, this isn't really a forum about tech stuff. That's the crap a lot of us wanna FORGET when we come in here, lol.
So siddown, have a drink, and hang out a while - THEN we can talk shop later. :)

Thanks for clarification.  I almost gave up.  I understand the mundane nature of tech especially when the top leader is clueless.  As for geek<>tech, if you don't have incompetent people dumbing you down, then it's easier to learn the tech.

Maybe a newbie orientation page?

P.S. - The real Christians are the good guys.  If you ever have a vision of the pit and witness the despicable evil spirits, then you will understand what they are saying.

Up your ass is a good start.

What the fuck are you on?

Maybe a newbie orientation page?

That would be called 'lurking' which is something you obviously didn't bother to do before you jumped right in and made this trainwreck of a thread.
