Outlook Express Address Book
« on: February 04, 2004, 10:48:30 AM »

I recently got a new work email address, so I figured now would be a good time to have my friends and family stop using the work email and start using my home email.

So I want to take my address book from the work account in Outlook Express and import it to my home account.  How do I do that?  I found "import address book", but don't know where it actually is in my computer.

There's different file formats it will read. Not sure what your current list is but you can start from scratch.

From work, do the following:

On the File menu, point to Export, and then click Address Book.
Choose a format for the export. To export your address book directly from Outlook Express, choose Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book. To use a file with address information separated by commas, select Text File.
Click Export.
Choose a profile that most closely fits the intended use for the exported address book, and then click OK.

So if you save in the text file format (csv), just e-mail that file to yourself and copy it on your home PC. Then follow the "import adress book" process below:

For Windows Address Book

On the File menu, point to Import, and then click Address Book.
Select the address book or file type you want to import, and then click Open.
For all other address book formats

On the File menu, point to Import, and then click Other Address Book.
Click the address book or file type you want to import, and then click Open.

There may be an easier way. I've never done it. I just looked up the help file.

Oh duh.  So first I have to export the thing to wherever I want.  Then import it again.  That makes perfect sense.  Help menu, of course.
