And the point of that was?

The exact same kind of video has been floating around for months with Bush flip flopping on Iraq.

Times and circumstances change.

1) Officially more than sick of the term "flip flop", despite having used it myself to outline my position on the case for war in Iraq more than a year ago.

2) Over a long enough time, every single person on the planet will have said something contradictory - especially obvious when much of what they say is on tape - and so this doesn't distinguish Kerry in any way; I'd like to see someone make a similar tape with Bush as the subjec--ohwaitMichaelMoore

Let's also not forget that there is a distinct difference between "flip ARGH flopping" and changing your mind - the latter being something anyone confronted with results or evidence to the contrary of their opinion would be wise to do. Apparently in politics, it's absolutely necessary to stick to your position on something no matter how ludicrous the result.

3) Wow, it was paid for by the Republicans! I'm sure they have absolutely no reason to portray Kerry in an unfavourable light.

4) Cool calendar effects though.

Hi, Xolik! :D

I think it's misleading and deceptive editing gone awry, and am curious to see what Kerry says after he's asked "Do you consider yourself an anti-war candidate" and he gets cut off right after "yeah--".

I think it's choc full of hooey, in other words.

All politicians are chock full of hooey

Critique on Kerry

Critique on Bush

Both of them dumb down everything they say and cater to the polls, focus groups, etc.

I haven't seen the video in question, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's the one talking about him voting to go to war, and then voting against the funding for it?

It wasn't really a flip flop.  Kerry specified when he voted for the war that he was doing so only on the condition that the administration behaved responsibly, worked with the UN, and seems like there were a few other things he said.  In any case, that obviously didn't happen, so he voted against additional funding as a way of retaliating against the administration.

I disagree with that tactic, and I think it was the wrong thing to do, but he had his reasons.  It wasn't really a flip-flop.

He also voted against the funding because of the ridiculous pork riders that numerous senators from both parties had attached to the funding bill that had nothing to do with the military. Also thtat several Republican senators voted against the same bill. Everyone seems to forget those parts.

I am now thoroughly convinced that John Kerry is a place-holder and they really don't want him to win [presumably so that Hillary can be the nominee in 08].

I say this because, after Zell Miller attacked Kerry on his voting record - at the RNC - I did some research on John Kerry's voting record, myself.  If you're interested, www.vote-smart.org has the easiest to navigate system I've found so far.  Any way... John Kerry voted with the mindset that was being promoted for the day.  Most of these weapons systems were geared for the Cold War and we were in the process of retooling the military for a fast-response design.  Further, Kerry did vote for many defense bills that were pro-military including SDI, a vote to keep 6 additional F-18 jets that were on the chopping block.  John kerry was also very fond of the Seawolf nuclear submarine.

Now, I was able to defend Kerry's voting record and I don't even like the guy.  The DNC, on the other hand, told Kerry, "Go out there and tell them that you served honorably while Cheney got 5 deferments.  Make a big deal about your 4 months 'in country'.... Oh!  And, do it at MIDNIGHT!"

It would appear that Kerry is taking some very bad advice, or he's not listening to any advice at all.  Either way, you need to judge a future president based on the advisors with which he'll surround himself.  So far, I'm not impressed by either party in that regard.

I'd forgotten about all the extra stuff they had tried to add to that funding plan, Law.  That just gives wore weight to what I was saying, though.  I'm not a huge Kerry supporter, but attacking him on his voting record in that manner is silly.  If you feel he voted incorrectly, okay.  That works, but if you're trying to make him out to look wishy-washy over it...  Well, that's just not the right way to wage a campaign.  Besides, it's not even true.

As far as changing the services and that being a reason for not voting to give them more money, that doesn't fly either.  The Army has been changing for years, and debated the nature of this current change for longer.  Some want to get rid of our tanks, others want to keep them.  Once we were very different unit to unit.  Some units were heavy armor or artillery and took longer to deploy, other mostly infantry and light vehicle units deployed faster, but couldn't stay in the field as long.  Lately we've ballanced it more, and everyone is moving to a happy medium.  Some folks want to go away from conventional tactics, however; and move to a more special forces orriented structure.  We always change, granted the Army more slowly than the others, but that's a really pathetic reason not to vote for more funding.  `We want you to change, so we're not going to vote on more money until you do.'  No, that doesn't fly, and I'm sure that it was hardly even a consideration for Kerry.  I'm not a big fan, but he's smarter than that.

I nearly laughed myself out of the shower this morning when some Republicrat on NPR was complaining about how when Kerry ran for re-election in 1996 against Governor Weld here in Massachsusetts the Vietnam issue was never raised and Kerry was never forced to answer any questions about his record. Instead he and the Governor debated issues like tax cuts, welfare reform, military funding and crime.

God, yeah, it was awful. Weld definitely would have won if they had stuck to talking about 30 year old wars.

I DO happen to go to a public school, but I've had to move to a new one, which is supposedly just as good, called ACC (Another COurse to College), the other school was Boston Latin, (bls.org) which is the oldest public school in the US.

OMG!  Are you telling me that they actually debated issues that made a difference!?  I've never heard of that before...  Must have been a fluke.
