Heh.  I didn't even read the damn Hobbit!!  Well, to be fair, we had it on....vinyl record and I'd heard the story many times.

My favourite was Of Mice and Men.  That was also summer reading I think.  I couldn't put it down.

And I cried at the end.

QOTD:  What was your favourite book that you were forced to read in school?

Either Lord of the Flies or The Crucible. Something about violence at a young age that made me really enjoy them.

When a number is chosen at random from the set {1,2,3,4,5,6}, which event
has the greatest probability of occuring?
1.  choosing an even number
2.  choosing a prime number
3.  choosing a number greater than 3
4.  NOT choosing either 1 or 6

1. 1/2
2. 1/2
3. 1/2
4. 2/3 <--- Greatest probability

I kinda answered this in advance.  But I gave several.  So let's just say Lysistrata for HS, The Teachings of Don Juan-A Yaqui Way of Knowlede for undergraduate years, Built To Last for graduate school, and The Billion Dollar Molecule for my certificate program in Biotech management.

QOTD:  What are the worst movies you have seen?

The Core. One of the absolute worst modern sci-fi films ever to see the carcinogenic light of day. But I loved it, because all of my geeky friends and I were rolling on the ground, dying of laughter during the scenes when the pigeons kill the tourists in Piccadilly Square because their 'internal magnets' are set off by core of the earth, which has suddenly ceased to move. Physics doesn't ruin movies... it enhances them by revealing the 'universal stupidity of people all around the world.'
Hmm... what else was really bad... oh GOD, the Da Vinci Code was a complete waste of time... I was also sorely disappointed by Alexander because I love ancient history... made me wish Philip II would have encouraged his wife to have an abortion so long ago, just so the movie wouldn't have come into existence.

1 does actually follow the definition of a prime number, that it can only be divided by itself and 1. Yes 1 is forcefully excluded from the prime list, but I think that is not right in principle.

In high school, Dostoevsky's "Crime & Punishment."

In college, anything by John Milton. Hate Milton.

And furthermore, no one in this thread suggested that 1 is a prime number, so why is pariah's intelligence insulted? I don't get it.

My plans are huge.  We're putting on the biggest fireworks show in the Richmond area.  I think we spent $25,000 on fireworks.  Our total budget is between $125,000 and $150,000.  There's going to be a 5k run in the morning and then gates open to the event around 4:00.  There's a kids area, a car show, beer trucks, vendors, and 3 bands (including Fighting Gravity).

Enrique is in charge of the race in the morning so I have to help him with that.

I'm in charge of the membership tent.  We have some good recruiters lined up including the person that recruited me at this very event 9 years ago, the Virginia Jaycee President, and the US Jaycee President.  I also put together a scrap book with pictures of all the events we've done in the last 3 years, I designed and printed 1250 brochures outlining what we do, and I got some doorprizes donated.  So hopefully we'll get some people to join the Jaycees tomorrow.

They were calling for isolated thunderstorms, but now they're saying "mostly sunny".  That's perfect.  We could use some cloud cover because it's gonna be a scorching 99 degrees out there.  Seems like good weather to make some money!!  (For charity of course.)  Honestly though, I'll be very happy if we break even since this is the first time we've done this event in several years and the first time ever that we've done it this big.
