I guess that'll do the job.

Maybe it was more widely publicised here.  They said it was "nationwide".  One thing that made it famous around here was that the head of the county schools where I work put out an email saying that we weren't to organize anything at the schools.  They weren't discouraging anything, people can wear whatever they want, but we couldn't ENcourage it either.  Well, the email was sent straight to NBC by someone and it was all over the news the next day about how we were against it all and were discouraging participation in this nationwide honoring.  It was so blown out of proportion.

So yeah, we ALL knew about the wearing of the colors today.

QOTD:  Did you wear orange and maroon today?

No.  I wore black sweats, a white team shirt with blue lettering and my blue and gold parka while I was at the swim meet.  What is the significance of orange and maroon?

Oh.  Sorry I don't buy into the commercialization of random acts of violence.  I've been boycotting the media since the event.

I don't even own any clothing that's orange or maroon. They did a 33 fog horn salute here on that day, it wasn't the most amazing idea, but it's the thought that counts.

Nice! Did you drive down or fly? We used to vacation EVERY YEAR in .   .   .
Indiana. Yup. Visiting relatives. We drove straight through from South Carolina to Indiana, stopping for gas, food, and to pee. I say "we drove" ... Dad drove. Man of Steel. Still don't know how he did it.

We drove.
We left on Easter Sunday and drove to just beyond the GA border.
We stayed the night and were on the road again on Monday morning by 8am.
We arrived in Homosassa by 3pm.

It was a really nice visit.  We surprised my parents by dragging my brother's sorry ass down with us without them knowing.

Full write up here: http://www.bizb.biz/index.php?type=1&id=364

The drive home was horrible until we got past Atlanta.  I HATE HATE HATE Georgia.

We have four week long shutdowns this year.  One of them I have to work since it's quarter end close, so I basically get one week.  That will be in August where we fly into Boston, drive to Rhode Island, hang with her family in a vacation rental for a few days, then we go to Ithaca to visit friends.  The fourth of July shutdown we'll probably be getting ready for our annual shindig that we host.  The Thanksgiving week shutdown we'll probably be getting ready for our annual shindig that we host.  The xmas week shutdown perhaps we can escape and do Carmel/Central Coast and avoid family altogether.

I just HAD my vacation.  I came here, to the geekery.  You noticed, right?  That was it, otherwise I worked around the house.

My next vacation is mid June.  I might go up to LI for a long weekend.  Then I have summer school.  When that ends I'll be going to....haven't decided yet.  Cancun, Puerto Rico or Las Vegas on my honeymoon!

Most of my working life I never had vacations. I guess I got used to it, because when I went to work here, the first 5 years I didn't take any vacation even though we have it; and I didn't really notice. Wasn't until my co-workers kinda made me realize how stupid I was being that I decided if I have vacation time allowed- I'm taking it REGARDLESS. You don't get any "points" for NOT taking it, everything's gonna get done anyway (whether you like to think it will or not), and you end up losing at least 40 - 80 hours of PAID time off. Now I've been here over seven years; it's actually quite a bit more hours than that, even.
My problem now is I have so much "real time" off (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, SunDAY- work starts Sunday night); plus two of those nights are telecommuting - that I have to remind myself to take the vacation.
Yep, I'm shittin ovar to teh High cotton.  :-)

then we go to Ithaca to visit friends.

When you go by the Taco Bell there, think of me.  I worked there in college.  Oh, and the Hill's in the mall too.

And if you get to travel on 13...yeah think of me then too!  I got two speeding tickets in a week on that fucking road!

When you go through Cortland, think of me and how much beer I drank there!
