XP or Vista on a new Dell XPS?

Hello,

I am new to this forum.  I will soon be purchasing a new PC from Dell with the following specs:

Intel Core 2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz)
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 DIMMs
320GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM)
16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
22 inch E228WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel
256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

The debate im having is whether to choose XP over Vista.  I dont really have a pressing reason to upgrade to Vista.  I just figured that because of this, why not use more of my available power/capabilities for an OS with a smaller footprint.  I would convert entirely to Linux if i did not HAVE to use windoze for some things.

If you're buying from dell (excellent choice btw), make sure to ask them about their turbo hard drive spinners.

I hear Hamster2008 will be released a couple months early.  It's guaranteed to give the hard drive spinners more gusto.
