They're finally putting me on Prozac....

It's pretty embarassing, but I have will be trying Prozak for the first time this Saturday. Anyone have any "experience" with SSRI's?!?!

Not personally, but my mom is bipolar.  She's been on Lithium and Prozac for several years.

The one thing I've taken from her ordeal is that you can't expect instant results overnight.  Sometimes it takes a while before the correct dosage can be determined... in all seriousness it took my mom around two or three years before the combination of drugs was "stabilized"... before that it was kind of a roller coaster.

Good luck with it.  Do your research.  Know what drugs you are taking, and don't just depend on what mom & dad tell you or what the doc tells you.

My little stepbrother was told he was taking "special vitamins" by his mother, who puthim on Prozac.  Imagine my stepdad's surprise when he found out about the vitamins.

My brother spent some time on mood-altering drugs (they didn't really work that way, unfortunately) and the only real effect they had was to make him gain 80 pounds.

Once he got off the drugs again, he lost the 80 pounds in a month. It was like he melted.

Creepy.

Well, supposedly "fluxotine" is a mild stimulant, so I think that my appatite would be suppressed...so I'd loose weight,.

I say any parent who turns towards drugging their kids as a FIRST resort must be drugged up themselves as well. Anyone with me?

I can't say I have ever had any experince with this drug or know of anyone close to me that takes this. I have had alot of friends want it but other than that. No help on this end for that situation. Now however should it have been ritland... I can give you alot of my own personal thoughts on that drug seeings as how my son had been on it for damn near 10 yrs with no signifigant improvements during that time that would have suggested to me that it was the answer to all problems. Just becareful dude. I hate to see anyone go on any kind of drug that is for some kind of therapy improvement type of deal. I do hope that for whatever reason you will be taking this drug for it helps you but remember that a drug can't help one out without the person allowing it to help basically if you ask me you are in the long run and below the surface of it all the greatest help to yourself if that makes any sence. Don;t be embarrased about it their are plenty of people that take drugs of some kind for some reason or another. Good luck.
